1. About these terms
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") are an agreement between you and Sara Abutaleb, the owner of the Miftahi app, based in the Arab Republic of Egypt ("Miftahi", "we", "us" or "our"). They apply to the Miftahi mobile app, its Holy Qur’an reader, its Arabic course, its social features and every related service we provide (together, the "Service").
By creating an account, confirming your consent at sign-in, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and confirm that you have read our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Short summaries and headings are there to help you read, but the full text of each section is what applies. If these Terms are ever translated, the English version applies if the two differ.
2. Words we use
- "Account" means the Miftahi account you sign in with, whether it uses a username and password or, when available, Apple or Google sign-in.
- "Your Content" means anything you write or share in the Service: your names, bio, status, favourite verse, messages, clan chat posts, clan details, gift notes, reports, help requests and feedback.
- "Miftahi Go" means our optional paid membership described in section 13.
- "XP" means the experience points you earn by learning and reading, or buy in packs, and "Virtual Items" means the frames, banners, titles, clan perks and other items that can be obtained with XP.
- "Store" means the Apple App Store or Google Play, whichever you used to download the app or make a purchase.
3. Who can use Miftahi
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the Service.
The app asks for your birth year at sign-up only to check your age. The year itself is not stored. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we will delete it.
You may not use the Service if you are barred from doing so under the laws that apply to you, or if we have previously removed your account for breaking these Terms.
4. Your account
Give accurate information when you create your account, and keep your password private. You are responsible for everything that happens on your account. If you think someone else has used it, change your password and tell us at once through Settings, Ask for help.
Username accounts have no email address attached, so a forgotten password cannot be reset by email. Instead, make a recovery code in Settings, Account and security and keep it somewhere safe: with your username it resets your password once, from the sign-in screen. Keep it as private as your password. If you lose both, contact us and a person will verify that the account is yours before helping you back in.
Each account is for one person. You may add and switch between your own accounts on one phone, but you may not share, sell, rent or transfer an account, or use someone else's account.
5. Names, profiles and clans
Usernames are unique and may be changed at most three times (Miftahi Go members may change them freely). Usernames, nicknames, status lines, bios, titles, clan names, tags, descriptions, mottos and welcome messages must not impersonate others or contain offensive words. They are filtered automatically on your phone and on our server, and may be reviewed when reported. We may change or remove names and profile content that break these rules.
Your public profile, including your username, nickname, avatar, badges, XP, streak and clan, is visible to other signed-in learners. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what is shown.
6. Community rules
Everywhere in Miftahi (messages, clan chat, names, bios, statuses, clans, gift notes and reports), you agree to: be kind; use clean language, with no swearing, insults, slurs or hate in any language or spelling; never bully, harass, threaten or keep contacting someone who does not want it; keep personal details private, never sharing or asking for addresses, phone numbers, schools, passwords, photos or social media, and never arranging to meet; post nothing sexual, violent or encouraging self-harm; respect the Holy Qur’an, Islam and every person's beliefs; send no spam, advertising, scams or requests for money; and never pretend to be someone else. Messages can only be sent between friends. Clan leaders and elders help keep their clan within these rules. The full rules are in Settings, Community rules.
7. How the rules are enforced
An automatic filter hides blocked words in chats. Each time counts as one rule break (at most one an hour), and so do three reports about you from different learners in one week. You get two warnings. After that, chat pauses: for 24 hours at the third rule break, 7 days at the fourth, and 30 days each time after. While chat is paused you cannot send messages, friend requests or clan invites, but you can still read, learn and use the Holy Qur’an. Rule breaks stop counting after 90 days. You can see your standing, and why, in Settings, Community rules.
A person reviews reports. Serious harm, such as threats, sexual content or targeting children, can lead to a longer restriction or removal of the account without warnings. If you think a decision was wrong, ask for a review in Settings, Ask for help, and a person will look at it.
You can block or report anyone. Blocking removes the friendship and stops all messages at once. Please do not file false reports; repeated false reports can limit your own account.
8. Child safety
Miftahi has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation, including grooming and any sexual content involving minors. Such content or behaviour leads to immediate removal of the account and is reported to the relevant authorities. If you see anything like this, report it in the app or email miftahiapp@gmail.com, and if a child is in danger, contact your local emergency number.
9. Acceptable use of the Service
Besides the community rules, you agree not to:
- copy, modify, sell, rent or distribute any part of the Service, or build a competing product from it;
- decompile, reverse engineer or try to extract the source code of the app, except where the law expressly allows it;
- use bots, scripts, scrapers or other automated means to access the Service, create accounts, send messages, or collect information about other learners;
- get around, disable or test our security, sign-in, word filter, rate limits, daily message limits or any other protection, or access data that is not yours;
- interfere with or overload our servers, or upload anything that contains malware or harmful code;
- use the Service for anything unlawful, or for commercial purposes such as advertising, without our written permission.
If you find a security weakness, please report it privately to miftahiapp@gmail.com and do not use it to access anyone else's data. We welcome good-faith reports.
10. Your content
You keep ownership of Your Content. So that we can run the Service, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display and transmit Your Content only as needed to operate, provide, protect and improve the Service. For example, we need this to deliver a message to your friend, show your profile to other learners, or keep a reported message for review. The licence ends when Your Content is deleted, except for copies we must keep to handle a report, meet a legal duty, or that remain for a short time in backups.
You confirm that you have the right to share Your Content and that it does not break these Terms or anyone else's rights. We do not check everything before it appears, apart from the automatic word filter, but we may remove or hide content that breaks these Terms.
Messages and clan chat are not end-to-end encrypted. You can delete messages you sent, which removes them for everyone in the chat. A message that was reported is kept with the report so a person can review it, even if it is later deleted.
11. The Holy Qur’an and religious content
Reading and listening to the Holy Qur’an, word-by-word meanings, search and saved verses are free for everyone and always will be.
The Arabic text of the Holy Qur’an is shown in the Uthmani script and is never altered by the app. Translations belong to their named translators and are shown with attribution. Recitation audio is streamed from the third-party sources listed in the About page. You may not alter, misattribute or misrepresent any of this content.
Miftahi is a reading and learning aid. It does not give religious rulings (fatwas), and nothing in the app should be taken as one. For questions of faith and practice, please consult a qualified scholar.
12. The Arabic course
Course content is provided to help you learn and may contain mistakes. Content marked as draft has not yet been checked by a native Arabic speaker. Please report anything you believe is wrong through the app so we can correct it.
Your personal plan, placement result and practice suggestions are generated automatically from your answers. They are guidance only, and we do not promise any particular learning result.
13. Miftahi Go
Miftahi Go is an optional membership that unlocks the Arabic course, vocabulary practice, friends and messaging, badges, clans and unlimited username changes. Everything related to reading and listening to the Holy Qur’an stays free without it.
We may offer a free trial of Miftahi Go. At present each account can start one 3-day trial, with no payment details needed, and it simply ends when the time is up. When a trial is offered through a Store as an introductory offer, it turns into a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel before it ends.
Paid Miftahi Go is an auto-renewing subscription sold through the Store, billed either monthly or yearly; you choose the plan before you subscribe and can switch in your Store account. Payment is charged to your Store account when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and the Store charges the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Store account settings. Settings, Subscription in the app links there and lets you tell us why you are leaving, which is optional. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Go stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting your Miftahi account does not cancel a Store subscription, so please cancel it in the Store as well.
When Go ends, Go features lock again. Your friends, messages, clan membership and badges are kept, and they come back if you rejoin. If we change the price of Go, the Store will tell you in advance under its own rules, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
14. XP, Virtual Items and gifts
XP is earned by learning and reading, and can also be bought in packs. Bought XP is credited to your account like earned XP, so it counts toward your totals, your clan and the rankings, and it fills your spendable XP wallet.
XP and Virtual Items are a limited, personal licence to use features inside the Service. They are not money or property, have no cash value, cannot be sold, transferred or exchanged outside the Service, and cannot be refunded once used, except where the law requires it. We may adjust or remove XP, Virtual Items, badges or rankings that were obtained through a mistake, a bug, cheating or a breach of these Terms.
You can gift Miftahi Go to another learner for 1, 3 or 12 months, with an optional short note that is checked by the word filter. A gift is a one-time payment, not a subscription: it starts as soon as it is paid, adds to any Go time the recipient already has, and ends on its own without renewing. Gifts cannot be exchanged for money or moved to a different person once sent, and you cannot send a gift to someone who has blocked you or whom you have blocked.
15. Payments, prices and refunds
All purchases are processed by the Store, not by us, and we never see your card details. Prices are set and shown by the Store in your local currency and include any sales tax or VAT the Store collects in your country.
Refunds are handled by the Store under its own policies. For purchases made through Apple, you can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. For purchases made through Google Play, you can request one from your Google Play order history. Nothing in these Terms limits any right to a refund that you have under the consumer law of the country where you live.
In this version of the app, purchases are not switched on yet and no money can be collected. These Terms will be updated if anything changes when billing is switched on.
16. Events, leagues and fair play
Reading challenges, clan events, clan wars and leagues are for fun and motivation. Do not use scripts, modified apps, shared or multiple accounts, or any other trick to inflate XP, streaks, progress or rankings. We may correct or remove progress, badges, XP, rewards and clan standings that were gained unfairly, and repeated cheating can lead to the account being suspended.
17. Other companies' services
The Service relies on other companies, including Apple and Google (app distribution, sign-in and payments), Supabase (our database and sign-in), Resend (delivering help requests and feedback to our inbox), Sentry (crash and error reports), and Quran.com, QuranCDN and QuranicAudio (recitation audio). Pronunciation audio uses your phone's built-in speech engine. These companies act under their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for services they provide directly to you.
18. Our intellectual property
The Service, including the app's design, code, the Miftahi name and logo, the mascot Mifty, the course content, illustrations and sounds, belongs to us or to our licensors. Fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License, and the Holy Qur’an text, translations and recitations remain with their sources.
We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, in line with these Terms and the Store's usage rules. All rights not expressly given to you are reserved.
19. Feedback
If you send us ideas, suggestions or feedback, including when you cancel Miftahi Go or through Share your thoughts, we may use them to improve the Service without any obligation to you. Please do not send us anything you want to keep confidential.
20. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, who handles it and how long we keep it. You can download a copy of your data or delete your account at any time in Settings, Export & storage.
21. Changes to the Service and to these Terms
We are always improving Miftahi, so we may add, change or remove features, content, events and prices, and we may suspend the Service for maintenance. We will try to give notice in the app before a change that significantly reduces what you have paid for.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version. When a change matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using the Service after the change takes effect, the updated Terms apply. If you do not agree, you can stop using the Service and delete your account.
22. Suspension and ending your account
You can stop using Miftahi at any time and delete your account in Settings, under Export & storage. Deleting removes your profile, progress, friendships, messages, clan membership and clan chat messages, gifts, reports and help requests from our servers. If you lead a clan, leadership passes to another member.
We may restrict, suspend or delete an account that breaks these Terms, puts other learners at risk, or where the law requires it. Where it is safe and reasonable, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond through Ask for help. Serious harm, such as threats or the exploitation of children, can lead to immediate removal.
When an account ends, your licence to use the Service ends too. Sections that by their nature should continue, such as those on Your Content kept for reports, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability and governing law, continue to apply.
23. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we do not promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful components, or that course content, translations or recitations will meet every need. Some countries do not allow certain warranties to be excluded, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you, and nothing here affects rights that cannot be excluded by law.
24. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive losses, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service, from content posted by other learners, or from interruptions or events outside our reasonable control.
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid for Miftahi Go and in-app purchases in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under the law that applies to you.
25. Responsibility for misuse
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to compensate us for reasonable losses and costs, including legal fees, that result from a claim by someone else caused by your breach of these Terms or by Your Content. This does not apply to consumers where the law does not allow it.
26. Terms for Apple and Google downloads
If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, you and we agree that:
- these Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple, and we, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content;
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app;
- if the app fails to meet any warranty that applies, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price, if any; to the extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app;
- we, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims about the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app does not meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims;
- we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating and handling any claim that the app infringes someone else's intellectual property;
- you confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a United States government embargo, and that you are not on any United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties;
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
If you downloaded the app from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply to your download and use of the app. If they conflict with these Terms on how the app is provided to you, the Google Play terms apply to that point.
27. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt, without affecting any consumer rights you have under the laws of the country where you live.
If something goes wrong, please contact us first at miftahiapp@gmail.com or through Ask for help. Most concerns can be solved quickly, and we will try to resolve yours within 30 days. If we cannot, the courts of the Arab Republic of Egypt will have jurisdiction, but you may also bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live if the law there gives you that right.
28. General
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Community rules, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up.
You may not transfer your rights under these Terms to anyone else. We may transfer ours to another organisation that takes over the Service, and we will tell you if that happens; it will not reduce your rights under these Terms. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, employment or agency relationship.
29. Contact
Questions, complaints or legal notices: miftahiapp@gmail.com, or Settings, Ask for help in the app. We usually reply within a few days.
